Your northern frontier safari begins with an early morning pick-up from your Nairobi hotel or airport. As you head out of the capital, the landscapes gradually shift—from bustling cityscapes to rolling highlands dotted with tea and coffee farms. Midway through your journey, pause briefly at the Equator line for a photo opportunity and a firsthand experience of the hemispheric divide.
By midday, you’ll descend into the sun-drenched valleys of Samburu, arriving in time for lunch at your tented camp nestled within Buffalo Springs National Reserve. After a short rest, your first game drive awaits. Here, the land opens up into rugged hills and acacia-studded plains where wildlife thrives in an arid setting unlike any other.
This is the domain of the Samburu Special Five—creatures uniquely adapted to the dry north: the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx, and the elegant, long-necked gerenuk. You may also encounter large elephant herds, elusive leopards, lions on the move, or cheetahs stalking prey.
As dusk settles over the reserve, return to camp for dinner under the stars and your first overnight in the wild.
